Aigboje, Dangote, Sanwo-Olu, and other dignitaries don vibrant ‘aso ebi’ attire to pay respects at Wigwe family’s wake

Family and friends of the late banker Herbert Wigwe gathered on Friday night at the newly inaugurated Wigwe University in the Isiokpo community of Rivers State’s Ikwerre Local Government Area for the wake ceremony.

Wigwe, along with his wife, son, and former Nigerian Exchange Group chairman Abimbola Ogunbanjo, tragically lost their lives in a helicopter crash near the border of California and Nevada on February 9. Their bodies had arrived earlier in the day in Isiokpo.

The attendees, including the host Governor Siminalayi Fubara, adorned themselves in vibrant ‘aso ebi’ attire, symbolizing solidarity and unity.

Prominent figures such as businessman Aliko Dangote, Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun, and Wigwe’s business partner Aigboje Aig-Imoukhuede were also present, dressed in similar ‘aso ebi’ outfits.

The wake also saw the attendance of former presidential candidate Peter Obi, Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike, and former Rivers State gubernatorial candidate Tonye Cole.

The funeral rites for the Wigwe family commenced earlier in the week, on March 4, 2024.

The collective funeral service is scheduled for Saturday, March 9, at the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Lion of Judah Parish, Isiokpo, at 10 am, followed by a private interment.
