On Friday, a Lagos cleric, Oluwafeyiropo Daniels, was sentenced to life imprisonment by the Ikeja Sexual Offences and Domestic Violence Court for raping his 23-year-old assistant (identity protected). Justice Rahman Oshodi also handed Daniels, the head of I Reign Christian Ministry in Lagos, a three-year prison term for sexually assaulting a 19-year-old member of the church (as per count three in the four-count charge).
The judge decreed that Daniels would spend the remainder of his life at the Kirikiri custodial facility in Lagos, emphasizing the cleric’s apparent lack of regard for truth.
While discharging and acquitting Daniels on count two of the charge, which pertained to the rape of another church member (identity protected), Justice Oshodi noted the presence of an element of consent from the individual.
Additionally, Daniels was discharged and acquitted on count four of the charge, involving the attempted rape of another church member.
The charges against Daniels were amended, resulting in a four-count charge that included offenses related to rape, attempted rape, and sexual assault.
