Access Holdings Plc (the Holdco) made a significant announcement on Wednesday, appointing Aigboje Aig-Imoukhuede as its new non-executive chairman following the unfortunate passing of Herbert Wigwe, the company’s group chief executive officer.

In a statement penned by the company secretary Sunday Ekwochi, it was revealed that Aig-Imoukhuede would take over from Abubakar Jimoh, the previous chairman, who transitions to the role of an independent non-executive director on the board.

The statement hailed Aig-Imoukhuede as a visionary leader with a stellar track record, poised to lead Access Holdings into a new era of success. Reflecting on the loss of Herbert Wigwe, the Holdco Board unanimously decided to entrust Aig-Imoukhuede with the reins of governance after extensive consultations with stakeholders.

Aig-Imoukhuede’s illustrious career in the banking and finance sector, notably his tenure as Group Chief Executive Officer of Access Bank from 2002 to 2013, was highlighted as instrumental in shaping the institution’s growth. During his leadership, Access Bank evolved into one of Nigeria’s top 5 banks, expanded across Africa and the UK, and witnessed exponential growth in customer base and assets.

Following his retirement from Access Bank, Aig-Imoukhuede ventured into diverse sectors through the Tengen Family Office Limited and committed himself to philanthropic endeavors via the Aig-Imoukhuede Foundation.

His return to Access Holdings as Non-Executive Chairman signifies the Board’s commitment to building upon the foundation laid by Aig-Imoukhuede and Herbert Wigwe. In his new capacity, Aig-Imoukhuede will collaborate with the Board to oversee strategy and provide guidance to the executive management team, leveraging his extensive experience and leadership skills.

Abubakar Jimoh expressed excitement about Aig-Imoukhuede’s appointment, foreseeing a promising future for Access Holdings under his leadership. Aig-Imoukhuede himself expressed enthusiasm for the opportunity to contribute to the group’s success, expressing confidence in the collective effort to realize their shared vision.
