On Wednesday, Ondo State Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa revealed his selection of Olaide Adelami, a former deputy clerk of the National Assembly, as the prospective deputy governor of the state. This announcement followed the governor’s decision to dismiss all commissioners and special advisers earlier in the day.
Aiyedatiwa conveyed his nomination to the House of Assembly for the necessary approval, as stated in a release by his chief press secretary, Ebenezer Adeniyan. The statement anticipated that the House of Assembly would officially declare Adelami’s nomination later in the day.
Olaide Adelami, who retired from his role as the deputy clerk of the National Assembly in April 2018, is a native of Owo in Owo Local Government Area. Significantly, Owo is the same local government area as Aiyedatiwa’s late predecessor, Rotimi Akeredolu.
Notably, Adelami, who previously contested for the governorship under the APC in 2020, withdrew from the race in favor of the late Akeredolu. The political landscape has undergone significant changes since then, culminating in Aiyedatiwa’s assumption of the governorship on December 27, 2023, following the passing of Akeredolu at the age of 67. Akeredolu succumbed to prostate cancer while receiving treatment at a hospital in Germany.
