APGA to Okonkwo: Drop Your Governorship Ambition, Soludo Remains Unshaken

The All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) has called on one of the leading governorship aspirants of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Prof. Obiora Okonkwo, to abandon his ambition of unseating Anambra State Governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo. Reports gathered by YEPS News indicate that APGA remains confident in Soludo’s leadership and sees Okonkwo’s aspirations as unrealistic.

Okonkwo, while inaugurating the new APC secretariat in Awka last Saturday, declared his intent to defeat Soludo if given the APC ticket. He insisted that he alone had the capacity to govern Anambra in the next dispensation.

However, in a swift reaction, the National Coordinator of APGA Media Warriors Forum, Chinedu Obigwe, dismissed Okonkwo’s claims in a statement issued on Saturday. Obigwe maintained that even if Okonkwo secures the APC ticket, he would be roundly defeated by Soludo in the November 8 governorship election.

Okonkwo Can’t Match Soludo, APGA Says

The statement, obtained by YEPS News, partly reads: “Okonkwo enjoys positioning himself as a rival to Soludo, even when it is evident that he cannot compete with him. He is forcing himself into a comparison that simply does not exist. As I stated in one of my recent write-ups, Okonkwo will be handed another resounding defeat in the forthcoming election.”

Obigwe further stated that Okonkwo’s history in Anambra politics speaks for itself, pointing out that he has never won an election in the state. “He will not get the APC ticket, and even if he defects to an obscure party, he will meet the same fate as in the 2021 governorship election. The reason is simple—Obiora Okonkwo is not a strategic politician, which is why he has consistently failed to win elections in Anambra.”

No Debate for Okonkwo Until He Secures a Ticket

Addressing Okonkwo’s challenge for a public debate with Soludo, Obigwe scoffed at the idea, advising Okonkwo to first secure the APC ticket before making such demands. “Before thinking of a debate, he should focus on surviving the tough hurdle of winning the APC primary. If he fails there, as expected, he may follow his usual pattern of defecting to an unknown party to get a ticket.”

According to APGA, as things stand today, Okonkwo does not merit Soludo’s attention for a debate. Instead, the governor remains focused on delivering dividends of good governance to Anambra people.

Soludo’s Governance Widely Commended

Obigwe warned that anyone claiming Soludo is not working in Anambra is at risk of public outrage. “As things stand, Anambra people are witnessing and commending the governor’s efforts. Those like Obiora Okonkwo and his opposition allies who claim otherwise are exposing themselves as habitual liars.”

He also highlighted the governor’s achievements in tackling insecurity, stating that the launch of ‘Operation Udo Ga-achi’ has significantly improved the security situation in the state.

“Governor Soludo has justified the confidence Anambra people placed in him. Re-electing him for a second term will be a well-deserved reward for the transformation he is bringing to the state,” the statement added.
