Super Falcons forward Asisat Oshoala has stepped up to defend Super Eagles midfielder Alex Iwobi against criticism from social media influencers Tunde Ednut and VeryDarkMan following the team’s defeat at the 2023 AFCON finals.
Since the loss to Cote d’Ivoire, Iwobi has faced scrutiny, with some fans questioning coach Jose Peseiro’s decision to start him in the game.
Despite his efforts during the match, Iwobi was singled out for criticism, prompting him to take a break from social media.
In response to a post by Tunde Ednut celebrating Iwobi’s substitution, Oshoala didn’t hold back, calling him out as an “as*hole” and accusing him of hypocrisy.
She also pointed out Ednut’s tendency to body shame women, highlighting her own experience as a victim of cyberbullying.
Oshoala further criticized VeryDarkMan for his negative remarks about Iwobi, questioning his motives and calling him names.
Expressing her frustration, she revealed that VeryDarkMan had previously apologized to her for his behavior, indicating a lack of sincerity in his comments.
Oshoala’s passionate defense of Iwobi highlights her commitment to standing up against cyberbullying and unfair criticism in the sports community.
