Nigerian authorities have carried out a courageous rescue operation, liberating a group of at least 10 teenage girls, aged between 15 and 16, from the clutches of human trafficking and forced prostitution.

These young girls were deceived with false promises of a better life in Ghana, only to find themselves trapped in a grim reality of exploitation and abuse.

Adding to the tragedy, three of the victims share the same parents, intensifying the anguish for their family.

The perpetrator, a Nigerian man, has been apprehended and is currently detained by the police, awaiting justice for his despicable crimes.

Abike Dabiri-Erewa, Chairperson of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission, disclosed that the rescue operation was initiated following a tip-off from NIDO, a vital organization representing Nigerians living in Ghana.

The rescued girls bravely shared their harrowing experiences, recounting instances of physical violence, sexual assault, and coerced prostitution without any form of compensation. Stripped of their phones, they were cut off from contacting their families, adding to their isolation and despair.

The Chairman of NIDO, Chief Callistus Elozieuwa, appealed for support to ensure the girls’ safe return to Nigeria.

Dabiri-Erewa called on the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons to take decisive action, describing the situation as “very, very heartbreaking.”
