The Governing Council of the Federal University of Health Sciences in Otukpo, Benue State, has appointed Professor Ediga Bede Agbo as the acting Vice Chancellor following the suspension of the university’s founding Vice Chancellor, Professor Innocent Ujah.

This announcement was made on Monday by the university’s Coordinator of Information, Publication, and Public Relations, James Onogwu, and shared with the press on Tuesday.

According to the statement, Professor Agbo’s appointment was confirmed during a special meeting of the Governing Council, which took place on October 17, 2024, under the leadership of Pro-Chancellor and Council Chairman, Ohieku Salami.

The statement indicated, “Professor Ediga Bede Agbo has been named the acting Vice Chancellor of the Federal University of Health Sciences, Otukpo. This decision was made during a special session of the Governing Council, chaired by the Pro-Chancellor.”

Additionally, the statement disclosed that Professor Ujah’s suspension stems from allegations of gross misconduct and a willful disregard for the Council’s authority.

When approached for a comment, the suspended Vice Chancellor, Professor Ujah, opted not to provide details, mentioning that he would soon address the committee overseeing the situation.
