Heavy rainfall that began early Saturday morning has caused delays in the arrival and distribution of electoral materials in parts of Edo Central Senatorial District. This district, consisting of five local government areas—Esan South-East, Igueben, Esan North-East, Esan West, and Esan Central—is set to be a key battleground, as both the PDP and APC candidates hail from this region.
By 7:50 a.m., most polling units visited had yet to receive election materials or officials, with residents largely remaining indoors due to the downpour. At polling stations near Ogboji in Irrua and Alli Square in Ekpoma, only a few voters were present, awaiting the arrival of Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) personnel and voting materials. The lack of activity left many uncertain whether the election would proceed as scheduled.
Reports indicated that some ad hoc staff had expressed grievances over delayed payments, while others confirmed they had already received compensation.
Security personnel were diligent in enforcing the restriction of movement, ensuring that only voters with valid identification were allowed to proceed to their designated polling units.
At the time of this report, the rain continues to fall heavily, further complicating election day logistics.
