Security operatives enforced the no-movement order from the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, with strict measures as the Edo State governorship election commenced on Saturday morning.
A heavy presence of both Nigeria Police and Nigerian Army personnel was observed on the major streets of Benin City. On Ekhewan Road, some vehicles were turned back, while those carrying journalists were thoroughly checked before being allowed to proceed.
Key areas such as Ring Road, Sakponba Road, and Ihama Road, especially near voting centers, were blocked off by security forces to control movement and ensure a smooth election process.
Residents heading to polling units were seen trekking and had to explain their purpose to security officers before being allowed to continue. One resident, Adesuwa, remarked that the heightened security presence, though strict, was a welcome measure to prevent potential disruption by miscreants.
