Fola Adeola, the founder of GTB, celebrates his 70th birthday

Fola Adeola, the founder of Guaranty Trust Bank (GTB), has celebrated his 70th birthday, with President Bola Tinubu extending warm wishes to his longtime friend on Wednesday.

Adeola, an alumnus of Yaba College of Technology with an HND in accountancy, holds degrees from prestigious institutions such as the London School of Accountancy, the International Institute for Management Development, the Lagos Business School, and the Harvard Business School.

Prior to co-founding GTB Plc in 1990 alongside Tayo Aderinokun, Adeola served as the deputy general manager and divisional head of the financial services division at Continental Merchant Bank Limited from 1986 to 1990.

In the public sector, he chaired the National Pension Commission and led the Lagos State Disaster Relief Committee formed after the January 27, 2002, Lagos armoury explosion.

Notably, Adeola served as the vice-presidential candidate of the Action Congress of Nigeria, running alongside former Economic and Financial Crimes Commission chairman Nuhu Ribadu in the 2011 presidential elections.

Ngelale conveyed President Tinubu’s felicitations, acknowledging Adeola’s significant contributions to the Nigerian business landscape by creating employment opportunities, fostering investment across sectors, and championing initiatives for the economic progress of Nigeria.
