In a tragic accident on the Yenagoa-Oporoma road in Bayelsa State, four people lost their lives when a speeding Toyota Sienna veered out of its lane and collided head-on with a tricycle at Famgbe 2.
According to an eyewitness, the Toyota Sienna was heading towards Oporoma while the tricycle was on its way back to Yenagoa around 7:00 pm on Monday when the fatal crash occurred. The victims included the driver of the tricycle and its passengers, while the occupants of the Sienna escaped without injuries.
The eyewitness suggested that heavy rainfall and poor visibility might have contributed to the accident, which happened on a bend notorious for previous crashes. It took some time for residents to respond to the emergency due to the rain and encroaching darkness.
Although there is a ban on tricycle operations in Bayelsa State beyond 7:00 pm, it is common for some drivers to continue operating outside the state capital, Yenagoa.
When contacted about the incident, the Bayelsa Police Command’s Public Relations Officer, Musa Mohammed, stated that he was not aware of the accident.
