Gunmen abduct Abia election official in Imo

The Chairman of the Abia State Independent Electoral Commission (ABSIEC), Prof. George Chima, has been kidnapped, as confirmed by reports gathered by YEPS News.

According to information from a family source, Chima was abducted on Friday from his residence in Okigwe, Imo State, while hosting a group of lecturers from Abia State University, Uturu. It is reported that four gunmen, suspected to be kidnappers, stormed the house, harassed the visitors, and took the ABSIEC Chairman with them.

The police spokesperson in the state, DSP Henry Okoye, confirmed the incident to YEPS News, stating that authorities are actively tracking down the kidnappers.

“We are aware of the kidnapping of Prof. Chima, and investigations are already underway,” Okoye said. “As I speak, the Commissioner of Police, Aboki Danjuma, is leading a team of officers to Okigwe. The police are committed to apprehending the criminals responsible for this act,” he assured.
