Three individuals from the Agagbe Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) camp were tragically killed by suspected armed herders while returning from their farms.
In an effort to sustain their families, many male adults from the camps across the state have turned to farming.
The victims were attacked on Monday evening as they made their way back from the fields. Terna Jacob, the former manager of the camp, confirmed the incident to our correspondent on Tuesday.
Jacob identified the deceased as Mr. Ameeya Solomon, 38, from Tse Kuan in Mbabuande council ward; Mr. Adagu Terwase, 40, from Tse Abua in Mbapa council ward; and Master Orkaha Terkende, 16, from Tse Maihwa in Mbabuande council ward. They were killed while returning to Agagbe town to sleep, as their homes had previously been burned down by armed Fulani herders.
Jacob recounted that Orkaha Terfa, the elder brother of the 16-year-old victim and one of the few who escaped the attack, reported that they were ambushed by suspected herders near NKST Church at Tse Nyamti while returning from the farm.
According to Jacob, the three victims were killed as they attempted to flee for safety after being ambushed.
Our correspondent learned that two of the deceased have been buried, while the third has been placed in a morgue in Agagbe.
When contacted, Police Public Relations Officer SP Catherine Anene stated that she had not yet received a report of the incident.
