Group CEO, NNPC: Mr. Mele Kyari

The Group Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited, Mr. Mele Kyari, has emphasized the pivotal role of natural gas in propelling economic growth and industrial advancement in Nigeria.

Speaking at the public presentation of the book titled “The Rise of Gas: From Gaslink to the Decade of Gas” authored by Charles A. Osezua in Abuja, Kyari underscored the global significance of gas as a vital energy source driving economic expansion and industrialization.

In a statement shared on the official handle of NNPC Limited (@nnpclimited) on Wednesday, the Chief Corporate Communications Officer, Olufemi Soneye, quoted Kyari stressing the imperative of prioritizing natural gas production and distribution.

“This is particularly crucial given the geopolitical complexities and energy security issues in the global landscape,” Kyari remarked.

Represented by Mrs. Oluwakemi Olumuyiwa, Head of Relationship and Stakeholder Management at NNPC Limited, the GCEO reiterated the importance of documenting Nigeria’s gas sector.

With Nigeria’s substantial gas reserves surpassing 200 trillion cubic feet (Tcf) and the potential to reach 600 Tcf, Kyari emphasized the need for leveraging this resource for sustainable development, energy security, and employment generation.

He highlighted that the book aligns with the Federal Government’s ‘Decade of Gas’ initiative, aimed at optimizing Nigeria’s abundant gas reserves for domestic consumption and international export.

Kyari also highlighted NNPC Ltd.’s pivotal role as a key stakeholder in advancing the ‘Decade of Gas’ agenda through strategic investments in critical gas infrastructure like pipelines and processing facilities.

In his remarks, the author, Osezua, hailed the unveiling of “The Rise of Gas” as his contribution to Nigeria’s energy literature, expressing gratitude to NNPC Limited for its support in launching the book.

Osezua emphasized that NNPC Limited’s involvement in the event underscores the company’s dedication to promoting knowledge sharing and innovation within the gas industry.

Likewise, Afolabi Oladele, Chairman of the Impact Investors Foundation and former Group Executive Director of NNPC Limited, commended the book for its comprehensive insights into the gas value chain, noting its relevance to policymakers amidst the global energy transition.
