The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and affiliated unions are gearing up for their planned protests in response to the nation’s soaring cost of living, rampant inflation, pervasive insecurity, and widespread hardship.
YEPS correspondents arrived at the bustling Labour House headquarters in Abuja at 7:12 a.m., observing a steady stream of union workers and disgruntled citizens converging at the venue. Notably, operatives from the Department of State Services were also present, monitoring the unfolding situation.
The NLC and the Trade Union Congress (TUC) had jointly issued a 14-day nationwide strike notice to the Federal Government on February 8, citing the government’s failure to implement agreements reached on October 2, following the removal of fuel subsidies.
In response to the government’s inaction following the ultimatum, organised labour has scheduled a two-day nationwide protest commencing today, February 27, and continuing through Wednesday, February 28.
Labour commenced mobilising its members for the protests last Monday, rallying support to highlight the exorbitant cost of living plaguing citizens across the country. As tensions rise and frustrations mount, the labour unions remain steadfast in their commitment to advocating for the welfare of Nigerian workers and citizens alike.
