NDLEA Destroys 28,959kg of Cannabis in Edo and Ekiti Forests

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has announced a significant operation in Edo State, where they destroyed 10,534.78 kilograms of cannabis cultivated on 4.213912 hectares of farmland.

Mr. Femi Babafemi, the NDLEA’s spokesman, revealed on Sunday in Abuja that the farm was located in the Uhen forest, Ovia North East Local Government Area. The agency’s operatives conducted a raid on Wednesday, June 12, resulting in the arrest of four suspects: Frank Ishoku, 38; Clifford Ossai, 49; Vanger Timothy, 30; and John Oluwaseyi, 30. Additionally, 16 kilograms of processed cannabis were seized for prosecution purposes.

In another significant operation, NDLEA operatives destroyed 18,425 kilograms of cannabis on 7.37 hectares of farmland. This coordinated effort underscores the agency’s commitment to combating drug cultivation and distribution.

Babafemi also highlighted the collaboration with sister security agencies, which supported the NDLEA’s operations in the dense forest of Ise Ekiti on Friday.

In the Federal Capital Territory, two suspects, Muhammad Abba, 33, and Samson Ehizogie, 42, were apprehended with 3,550 bottles of “Akuskura,” a new psychotropic substance mixture. The arrests occurred during raids in Garki Area 10 and Dutse Suokale on Friday, June 14.

In Benue, NDLEA operatives intercepted Emmanuel Ogechi, 24, with 11,200 pills of tramadol on June 12 along the Otukpo-Enugu road. In another operation, Anayo Onwe, 40, was caught with 62.4 kilograms of cannabis sativa in Nteje, and 1 kilogram of methamphetamine was seized from a fleeing suspect in Oraifite, Anambra.

In Kwara State, Muhammed Musa, 24, was arrested with 33 kilograms of cannabis in Bode-Saadu, Jebba, while Shokuro Adeola, 59, was nabbed with 11.5 kilograms of the same substance along the Lagos-Ibadan expressway in Oyo State.

These coordinated efforts by the NDLEA highlight their relentless pursuit to eradicate drug trafficking and cultivation across Nigeria.
