In preparation for the upcoming Ondo governorship election, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) announced on Tuesday that a total of 55,859 Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) were collected in the state during a five-day exercise, representing 62.2% of the 89,777 PVCs available.
Scheduled for November 16, 2024, the election saw the collection exercise take place from October 17 to 21, 2024, across all 203 wards in Ondo State.
In a statement issued by Sam Olumekun, INEC’s National Commissioner and Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee, it was highlighted that this marks the highest percentage of PVCs collected in such a brief period since the Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) process began in 2015.
“During the five-day period (October 17-21, 2024), the Commission made the PVCs from the recent CVR available for collection in every ward across the state. By the end of the exercise, 55,859 cards were collected by new registrants, as well as those seeking transfers or replacements for lost or damaged cards, as permitted by law,” the statement noted.
“This figure represents 62.2% of the 89,777 PVCs available for collection and is the highest percentage recorded in Ondo State since the CVR’s introduction in 2015.”
Additionally, INEC has announced that the collection will continue at its 18 Local Government Area (LGA) offices in Ondo State.
“The collection will resume in our 18 LGA offices from Wednesday, October 23, to Tuesday, October 29, 2024, operating daily from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM, including weekends. Details about the locations of our LGA offices are available on our website.
“We urge all remaining voters to collect their PVCs in person at our LGA offices, as the Commission maintains its policy that no cards will be collected by proxy,” Olumekun concluded.
