In a series of swift and decisive actions, Nigerian Army troops successfully thwarted a kidnapping attempt on passengers traveling aboard three commercial buses in Kogi State, while simultaneously neutralizing two insurgents in Zamfara State.
According to Major General Onyema Nwachukwu, the Director of Army Public Relations, the troops swiftly intervened along the Akpata-Obajana Road in Lokoja Local Government Area of Kogi State, where criminal elements launched an attack on the buses. The vigilant soldiers managed to rescue the passengers, engaging the assailants in a fierce confrontation. Several injured passengers were promptly evacuated to a nearby hospital for urgent medical attention.
In a separate operation, troops deployed for counter-insurgency operations in the North West region raided a notorious kidnappers’ hideout in the Kuyambana area of Zamfara State. In a gun battle with the insurgents, two of the criminals were neutralized, and a cache of weapons was seized, including a pump-action gun, a locally fabricated firearm, ammunition, a pistol, a handset, and a tying chain used to restrain kidnapped victims. The troops also dismantled the insurgents’ camp, eradicating the threat posed by these criminal elements.
These actions underscore the Nigerian Army’s unwavering commitment to safeguarding the lives and property of citizens across the country. The successful operations in Kogi and Zamfara States demonstrate the Army’s readiness to confront and defeat criminal elements, ensuring peace and security in the affected regions.
This latest feat follows closely on the heels of a recent operation in Taraba State, where soldiers attached to the 6th Brigade of the Nigerian Army neutralized two terrorists and recovered weapons in Bali Local Government Area. Together, these operations signify the Army’s proactive approach in combating insurgency and criminal activities, reaffirming its dedication to maintaining law and order nationwide.
