The Nigeria Immigration Service announced the implementation of e-border solutions in Kebbi, a northwestern state bordering Niger Republic, following a comprehensive two-day visit by the Service’s Comptroller-General, Kemi Nandap, to assess the nation’s borders firsthand.
In a statement released on Saturday, the Service’s Public Relations Officer, Kenneth Udo, quoted Nandap, highlighting that the intelligence gathered from e-border solutions would be swiftly shared among security agencies to bolster collaboration.
The statement, titled ‘Border Governance: Nigeria Immigration Service sets to deploy e-border solutions in Kebbi State to enhance migration management and national security,’ outlined the objectives of the deployment.
During her visit from May 8 – 9, 2024, Nandap engaged with Governor Nasir Idris and traditional rulers of border towns to reinforce collaboration with stakeholders on bolstering border security.
At the Governor’s office, the Comptroller-General reiterated the Service’s commitment to leveraging advanced technology to safeguard Nigeria’s borders, emphasizing that the e-border solutions being deployed will help combat trans-border crimes and related offences.
Governor Nasir pledged to provide a fleet of vehicles to enhance operational efficiency, underscoring a joint commitment to promoting national security and sustainable migration governance.
He also vowed further support for the Regional Migration Academy, Tugga, to bolster operational effectiveness.
Nandap also held discussions with the Emir of Gwandu, Major General Muhammad Bashar (retd.), and the leader of the Kamba Community, engaging other stakeholders whose proximity to border crossings and local knowledge are instrumental in identifying and addressing security threats.
Her assessment tour included visits to various border control posts, including the State Command in Birnin Kebbi, FOB in Kyengyakwai, Kamba Control Post, Dole Kaina (Land), and Lolo (Marine) Control Posts, where e-border technology is being deployed to provide real-time surveillance.
During interactions with security agencies at the border posts, Nandap emphasized the importance of sensitivity in executing duties, urging personnel to remain vigilant to detect and prevent the activities of bandits and insurgents, while also emphasizing the significance of their training.
