President Bola Tinubu on Sunday expressed his condolences to the government and people of Enugu State following the tragic fuel tanker explosion that claimed lives on Saturday.
He also instructed traffic control agencies to implement additional measures to prevent future fuel tanker explosions.
Tinubu conveyed his sympathies in a statement signed by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, titled ‘President Tinubu Mourns Victims of Fuel Tanker Explosion, Condoles with Enugu State Government.’
The fuel tanker reportedly lost control and erupted into flames while navigating the Ugwu-Onyeama section of the Enugu-Onitsha Expressway on Saturday, just days after a similar incident in Niger State that claimed over 80 lives.
The president expressed his sorrow for the families of the deceased and the injured, offering prayers for the souls of the departed and wishing a swift recovery to those receiving medical treatment.
He urged caution and strict adherence to safety measures among road users, particularly fuel tanker operators.
Additionally, Tinubu directed relevant agencies responsible for enforcing traffic regulations to implement measures to prevent the recurrence of such explosions across the country.
