On Tuesday morning, the Federal Government rolled out the red carpet for the Super Eagles with a grand welcome breakfast held at the prestigious Transcorp Hilton Hotel in Abuja.
Prior to the breakfast, the team had the honor of meeting with President Bola Tinubu at the State House Council Chambers, where he lauded their remarkable performance at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
In a gesture of appreciation, Tinubu bestowed upon each member of the team the prestigious Member of the Order of the Niger (MON) honor, recognizing their dedication and contribution to Nigerian football.
Despite the disappointing 2-1 loss to host nation Cote d’Ivoire in the thrilling final at the Alassane Ouattara Stadium in Abidjan, the Super Eagles returned to Abuja on Monday night, greeted by a warm reception.
Minister of Youth and Sports Development John Enoh, President of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) Ibrahim Gusau, and other distinguished guests joined in the welcome breakfast festivities.
The Super Eagles’ 25-man squad, boasting stars like Alex Iwobi, Ahmed Musa, Victor Osimhen, and Ola Aina, were present to bask in the commendations and support from the government and fans alike.
In a statement issued by his special adviser on media and publicity, Ajuri Ngelale, President Tinubu praised the team, coach, crew, and management for their resilience and dedication throughout the tournament.
He urged the nation to unite and work harder in the face of challenges, emphasizing the enduring spirit of Nigeria as a beacon of hope, strength, and unity.
Tinubu’s message echoed a sentiment of encouragement to the young talents across the nation, reminding them that they too can aspire to greatness and fulfill their dreams with unwavering determination and commitment.
