Governor Fubara delivered this caution during the inauguration of the Elele-Omoku Road project on Thursday.<\/p>\n
He advised the local government chairmen to avoid causing harm under the pretext of political support, emphasizing the transient nature of politics and the lasting impact of their actions.<\/p>\n
“So I\u2019m advising those people who call themselves local government chairmen. You have a few days left in office; conduct yourselves properly. Politics will come and go, but we will still live our lives,” Fubara stated. “Don’t let anyone deceive you. If you deliberately hurt anyone in the course of expressing your support, nobody will forgive you. You will pay for it. So, I\u2019m begging everyone, please conduct yourselves.”<\/p>\n
Governor Fubara also highlighted his administration’s commitment to transparency, mentioning that 50 percent of the funds allocated for the 3.3km road project had already been disbursed.<\/p>\n
Tensions have escalated recently, as last week, the council chairmen, under the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON), accused the governor of withholding their funds. State ALGON Chairman and Port Harcourt City Local Government Area Chairman, Allwell Ihunda, voiced these concerns during a press briefing in Port Harcourt. Ihunda also declared that he and his colleagues intend to remain in office for an additional six months, following a recent amendment to the Local Government Law by the state House of Assembly.<\/p>\n
