Tambuwal Slams APC, Says PDP Defections Fueled by ‘Stomach Infrastructure’
Former Sokoto State Governor, Aminu Tambuwal, has strongly criticized the recent wave of defections from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC), attributing the trend to personal gains rather than the people’s interests, reports gathered by YEPS News.
Speaking at the Northwest Zonal PDP meeting held at Hotel 17, Kaduna, on Saturday, Tambuwal expressed disappointment over what he described as “politics of stomach infrastructure.”
“People switch parties for different reasons, but what I have observed lately is that these defections are not driven by the welfare of the people but by personal benefits,” Tambuwal said.
The senator representing Sokoto South further questioned the logic behind politicians joining the ruling APC, given the economic struggles and policies implemented under the Tinubu administration.
“If anyone claims to be defecting in the interest of the people, then APC is not the place to go. The party has led Nigerians into hardship, with no clear direction, no compassion, and no real solutions. There is nothing attractive about it except for those chasing personal gains,” he added.
According to insights obtained by YEPS News, Tambuwal urged Nigerians who believe in true governance to unite and work towards voting out the APC in 2027.
Meanwhile, the PDP in the North-West reaffirmed its commitment to reclaiming leadership at the national level and providing a viable alternative to the current government.
Reading the meeting’s communiqué, North-West Zonal Chairman, Alhaji Bello Gwarzo, emphasized the importance of resolving internal conflicts and rallying grassroots support to ensure victory in 2027.
“The country looks up to the PDP for leadership. We must unite and prepare to take our rightful position,” Gwarzo stated.
The party also vowed to mobilize its strong followership to challenge the APC’s governance, stating that “in the North-West, all hands will be on deck to clear out the APC’s failed leadership.”
The meeting saw the attendance of key political figures, including former Kaduna State Governor Senator Ahmed Makarfi, Senator Ibrahim Shekarau, and PDP National Youth Leader Muhammed Kadade Suleiman. Others present included Zonal Party Chairman Bello Gwarzo, 2023 Jigawa State governorship candidate Mustapha Sule Lamido, and House of Representatives member Sadique Ango Abdullahi.
