Senator Lawal Usman, representing Kaduna Central in the National Assembly, has strongly denounced the brutal killing of travelers from Northern Nigeria in Uromi, Edo State. Expressing deep distress over the gruesome act, he has urged both the Federal and Edo State governments, along with security agencies, to launch an immediate, transparent, and comprehensive investigation to bring the perpetrators to justice.
In a statement issued on Saturday in Kaduna, Usman described the murder of innocent Northerners as not only barbaric but also a direct attack on the unity and peace of Nigeria.
“This heinous act is not just a crime against individuals; it is an assault on our national cohesion. The victims were hardworking Nigerians simply striving to make a living, only to be cut down in such a senseless manner. This is an atrocity that cannot go unpunished,” he declared.
He emphasized that no Nigerian, regardless of ethnicity, religion, or region, should ever be subjected to such violence. Calling for urgent government action, he insisted that those responsible must be held accountable without delay.
Beyond justice, Usman urged authorities and community leaders to strengthen peace-building efforts, foster dialogue, and work towards reconciliation to prevent ethnic tensions from escalating. He also cautioned against using the tragedy to fuel division or retaliatory attacks, reaffirming that Nigeria’s strength lies in its diversity.
“We must not allow this tragic incident to be exploited for division. Our focus should be on securing justice, promoting unity, and upholding the sanctity of human life,” he stated.
Expressing heartfelt condolences, Usman described the loss as a collective national tragedy, standing in solidarity with the bereaved families.
“To the grieving families, my thoughts and prayers are with you. May the Almighty grant you strength to bear this painful loss. Let us come together as one nation to reject violence and ensure a safer, more just Nigeria for all,” he concluded.
