In Adamawa State, a member of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) identified simply as Samuel, hailing from Kaduna State, tragically passed away during the tense penalty shootout. Samuel, serving in Numan, reportedly expressed his discomfort with penalty shootouts moments before collapsing. Despite efforts to save him, he was confirmed dead at the General Hospital in Numan. His sudden demise cast a somber shadow over the victory secured by Nigeria’s Super Eagles.

Similarly, in a separate incident, Dr. Cairo Ojougboh, a former member of the House of Representatives representing the Ika Federal Constituency of Delta State, met his untimely end while watching the same AFCON semi-final match. The thrilling spectacle of the game turned tragic as Dr. Ojougboh tragically passed away during the course of the match, adding a solemn note to an otherwise jubilant occasion.
