Reality TV star Mercy Eke shared insights into her experience as the runner-up on the all-stars edition of Big Brother Naija, explaining why she didn’t clinch the top spot to Ilebaye.
In a recent episode of Celebrity Quickies on comedian AY’s YouTube channel, Mercy reflected on her journey, suggesting that some viewers may have been hesitant to support her due to her previous win.
“The first time I entered the Big Brother House, it was all sunshine and smiles. I played the game, emerged victorious, and thought it was all smooth sailing. But the second time around, I realized that some people were hesitant to support me because they felt ‘once a winner, always a winner,'” she disclosed.
Mercy elaborated, revealing the perception that she had already achieved success and shouldn’t strive for more. “They thought, ‘She’s already rich, let someone else have a chance.’ It was as though there was an allergy to winners,” she lamented.
Despite falling short of victory, Mercy embraced the lessons learned from her second stint on the show. “This experience opened my eyes to people’s true colors. It’s all by God’s grace that I gained this perspective. Without this second chance, I wouldn’t have realized so much,” she reflected.
In conclusion, Mercy affirmed her resilience, stating, “I may not have won the crown, but I’m still a winner in my own right.”
Ilebaye emerged as the ultimate victor, securing the coveted N120 million grand prize in October 2023, with Mercy Eke finishing as the runner-up and Cee-C in third place.
