Governor of Cross River State, Senator Bassey Otu, has ordered the immediate dissolution of the current Governing Council of the University of Cross River State.

As part of the restructuring, the governor has appointed Prof. Francisca Bassey as the new acting vice chancellor of the university.

In a statement issued to YEPS News on Sunday by the governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Nsa Gill, it was revealed that Dr. Fidelis Ugbo has been appointed as the new pro-chancellor of the institution.

The statement further disclosed that Hon. Francis Ettah and Prof. Susan Etim are among the newly appointed members of the university’s Governing Council. The full list of the new Council members will be made available soon. However, the governor has directed that these appointments take immediate effect.

The release also emphasized that the outgoing acting vice chancellor is to promptly hand over to Prof. Bassey, with both expected to ensure a smooth and peaceful academic session at the university.

“The state government remains committed to the welfare of staff and students, as well as maintaining high standards of teaching and learning at the University of Cross River State,” the statement noted.

The governor’s directive calls for the new Governing Council to work collaboratively in changing any negative narrative surrounding the institution.
