On Thursday, Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun unveiled plans to implement a price control system within the state. He also announced the suspension of all market levies except those specifically for development and environmental purposes, aimed at improving market infrastructure.
Governor Abiodun shared these updates during a meeting with market leaders, including Iyaloja General Mrs. Yemisi Abass, at the Governor’s Office in Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta.
In response to rising food prices, Abiodun revealed that the state will soon launch the Gateway Trading Company, a rebranded version of the Bulk Purchasing Company. This initiative is designed to make food items more affordable for residents by operating in all four zones of the state.
He explained, “We are set to roll out bulk purchasing and selling across Ogun State. The rebranded Gateway Trading Board will help lower food prices by buying in bulk and reselling at reduced rates.”
Abiodun emphasized the state’s commitment to enforcing these new measures and warned that anyone found collecting unauthorized fees in markets will be prosecuted. He also pledged to tackle the issue of high rents imposed on market traders.
Mrs. Abass commended the governor for engaging with market leaders and expressed approval of the steps taken to improve conditions for the state’s residents.
