According to the Ebonyi State Police Command, a tragic incident unfolded in Ikachi Village, located in the Akparata area of Effium, Ohaukwu Local Government Area. In the attack, two individuals lost their lives, while seven others were abducted. Additionally, the assailants wreaked havoc by destroying property valued at millions of naira.
Confirming the incident, DSP Joshua Ukandu, the spokesperson for the Ebonyi Police Command, assured that the authorities are actively engaged in restoring peace to the area. Efforts are underway to collaborate with other security agencies to not only address the immediate crisis but also to delve into the underlying causes of the ongoing communal clashes.
The discord between the Ezza and Effium communities has persisted since 2021, exacerbating tensions and leading to sporadic outbreaks of violence. Ukandu emphasized the commitment of law enforcement to safeguarding lives and property across Ebonyi State, reaffirming their dedication to maintaining peace and security in the region.
